At this point is very difficult to determine the veracity of these rumors and speculations as both Microsoft and Sony are undoubtedly working on upcoming consoles, but it’s hard to predict when they are going to be officially unveiled. Additionally, Nintendo will be providing more details about the Wii U later during the year, though this company is in a different situation as the Wii hasn’t been selling particularly well these past few months. Aging hardware is another aspect that needs to be taken into account to analyze this as the PS3 and the Xbox 360 systems can’t really compete with high end PC’s anymore.

Furthermore, Sony has been hinting the existence of a PlayStation 4 ever since they released the PS3, so I guess it’s only matter of time before they unveil it. Still, one of Sony’s biggest selling points has always been the fact that their systems have long life cycles so maybe they won’t risk releasing a new platform so soon. Despite the aforementioned red ring of death “incident” and some other technical issues, the Xbox 360 has been an extremely successful console and it has been outselling the competition for a while now.
Since this report came out there have been countless opinions about the matter and while some think it’s feasible for both companies to announce new hardware, others think this is blatantly stupid. Nevertheless, it’s worth pointing out that both Sony and Microsoft have refused to discuss the matter.
