  • Is Capcom Teasing a Resident Evil 6 Announcement?

This article was originally published on January 19, 2012

It’s been around 3 years since the release of Resident Evil 5 and considering the success of the game it’s quite weird that Capcom hasn’t made any official announcements regarding a direct sequel yet. Of course everybody knows that Resident Evil 6 is eventually going to be revealed, what no one knows is when is going to happen. Still, a mysterious ad campaign would indicate that the next Resident Evil is just around the corner.

The “No Hope Left” ad campaign appeared on various locations across Europe and it has been directly related to Capcom. According to The Sixth Axis the videos and graffiti were made by the Japanese-based company. When asked about it they replied: “Capcom doesn’t comment on any rumors or speculation.” Nevertheless, a Sixth Axis reporter was able to locate the source of the faux graffiti (Primesight) so he asked them who was behind the viral campaign and they answered: "Panel number is 2375 03 Parry Street. The company advertising on it is CAPCOM."

According to the London-based writer, the process of locating the graffiti wasn’t really that difficult as he recognized one of the locations and went in person to see if he could find a logo or at least a phone number to contact the people who made it. There, he realized that those weren’t graffiti but printed ads, so he decided to call the company responsible for them.

Before this report, many suspected that Capcom was behind it, mainly because the slogan shows the inverted biohazard logo (Biohazard is the official name of Resident Evil in Japan.) It’s worth pointing out that multiple companies have decided to promote their upcoming products through graffiti (like Sony,) though this hasn’t always been the best idea ever as many people complained about them and were really angry about the campaign. These ads in particular indicate that the official reveal will take place on January 19, 2012 so if the announcement is in fact true we will find out in just a few minutes.

A lot has been said about the upcoming Resident Evil game, but no official details have been given yet. This next installment is expected to be a new take on the series and maybe it will provide the series with something refreshingly unique as many fans considered Resident Evil 5 a disappointment. It seemed like that game in particular was part shooter and part survival horror, but most fans didn’t think it was a worthy successor to Resident Evil 4, one of the greatest games of the past generation of consoles. But who knows? Maybe the sixth installment in the series will redefine the genre by doing something totally different.

For more information about the reveal please visit the official website NoHopeLeft.com, a blog which has various pictures and videos of graffiti from different parts of the world. and an overall apocalyptic theme
