How to connect your PS3 to a computer monitor

This will explain what you need to connect your PS3 to a computer monitor this can cost you $30-$50 if you do not have a very recently made monitor due to the need for an HDMI converter.

I highly recommend having an HD compatible monitor for this because the PS3 not only has amazing graphics but an HD compatible monitor will have an HDMI port on it so even if you went out and bought a whole new monitor you would be spending maybe $20 more then if you bought all new cords and you would have better screen resolution. When buying this ensure it is HDCP compatible (most will be but check just to be sure)

-To start off identify what type of ports you have on your monitor you need either an HDMI, DVI, VGA or component ports for this to work, here are what each socket looks like and an example of a converter from HDMI to that connection so you can identify them (I am in no way saying that whatever site is linked to is legit these are just to give you example prices and show you what they look like).

    HDMI

    DVI

For only $1.95 each when QTY 50+ purchased - HDMI Female to DVI-D Single Link Female Adapter | DVI <--> HDMI

    VGA

HP HDMI to VGA Display Adapter | HP Official Store

    Component

YPbPr to RGBHV VGA BOX - Google Search

In addition to getting the appropriate cords you will need a rca audio to 3/8" stereo (headphone) jack to get audio through to computer speakers or use a stereo with optical or (HDMI passthrough)

Now that you have identified which connection you have on your monitor and have bought the proper cords you can begin to connect it to your monitor this is the really easy part. Plug your cords in (if you dont know where to plug them in look at the pictures I placed above so you know what to look for) and change the input on your monitor to a channel matching the plug you used or if that is unavailable just switch through all of them and wait about 10 seconds on each until you find the right channel, and bam your connected.

Have any questions about this? was something unclear? feel free to ask here and I would be happy to help

Im pretty sure the PS3 doesn't come with a HDMI cable.

Secondly, a monitor must have HDCP if your going to use a digital method otherwise a converter thingy ma bob is needed.

.....well I used an HDMI cable on my PS3 that says PS3 on it and I havent made a trip to the store for the PS3 since it was bought so I didnt really see how a PS3 doesnt come with an HDMI cable.
also misunderstood your second point but nonetheless an HD monitor made within the last 6 years by any respectable company will be HDCP compatible you cant even use blu-ray/DVD equipped computers without one.
edit: upon further research it does appear as if not all PS3s come equipped with an HDMI cable this has been changed
